The MQ-9 CO Methane Gas Sensor Module is a high-performance gas detection unit designed to detect Carbon Monoxide (CO), Methane, LPG, and other combustible gases. Built around the sensitive SnO₂ (tin dioxide) sensing material, the MQ-9 offers fast response time and high sensitivity across a wide gas concentration range. It uses a dual heating cycle system to differentiate between reducing gases like CO and hydrocarbons like Methane and Propane.

At lower heater voltages (~1.5V), the sensor is optimized for detecting Carbon Monoxide. At higher temperatures (~5V), it detects Methane, Propane, and other combustible gases while cleaning absorbed gases. With analog signal output and a simple drive circuit, the MQ-9 is ideal for safety systems, gas leak detectors, and embedded IoT solutions using Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
